Final workshop in Bielefeld
International workshop in collaboration with PraProNE
News from Aug 04, 2025
Together with our colleagues from the Bielefeld project “A Pragmatic Profile of Namibian English” (PraProNE), we organized an international workshop on “Geographical Contrast in Variational Pragmatics” from 29 July-01 August 2025. Over the course of three days at Bielefeld University, participants engaged in intensive discussions on the latest research findings on geographical and social language variation at the pragmatic level and reflected on future methodological approaches and objectives for research on variational pragmatics. Jonathan Culpeper (Lancaster), Jenny Nilsson (Gothenburg), and J. César Félix-Brasdefer (Bloomington) presented their findings and experiences for English, Swedish and Spanish in exciting keynote talks. The complete workshop program can be viewed here. Our final workshop was the last meeting of all VariPrag subprojects. In the next months, all members will focus on publishing their research results and completing the project-related PhD dissertations. Stay tuned!
